Parkman (George F. Jr.) House is built.

1825

Architect: Cornelius Coolidge. Originally the Edward Tuckerman House, it is located at 33 Beacon Street. The building is purchased by the widow of Dr. George Parkman in 1853, and she, her daughter, and her son, George Parkman Jr., live here as recluses for the remainder of their lives. At his death in 1908, George Francis Parkman bequeaths the house to the city along with a $5 million endowment for what comes to be called the Parkman Fund, “The income of which is to be applied to the maintenance and improvement of the Common and the Parks now existing.”
